Abstract

India is experiencing a significant waste management crisis due to country's growing urbanization. Municipal solid waste management is one of the municipal corporation's most important services for maintaining cleanliness of metropolitan environment. The global Covid-19 pandemic has changed the dynamics of waste generation in almost every industry, making particular attention necessary. Moreover, erratic shifts in amount and makeup of waste put pressure on decision-makers to act swiftly. It is thought that India's garbage disposal management system was flawed. The present study offers a thorough examination of solid waste management practices implemented by Bilaspur Municipal Corporation, emphasizing the assessment of existing status, identification of challenges, and formulation of suggestions for enhancement. The study's objectives are to evaluate Bilaspur City's waste creation, collection, transportation, and disposal as well as to look at government programmes and policies that are meant to improve waste management efficiency. The study addresses problems and challenges that solid waste management is now facing. This paper provides ideas and directions to help implement methods to improve its cleanliness rating and attain zero waste creation through a thorough evaluation of these difficulties. Bilaspur can move closer to a more environmentally conscious, effective and sustainable waste management system by addressing the gaps and challenges that have been found and putting the recommended strategies into practice.
