Abstract
The recent manufacturing environment is characterized as having diverse products due to mass customization, short production leadtime, and unstable customer demand. This requires a new type of manufacturing system known as flexible manufacturing system (FMS). This paper mainly focuses on realizing the modeling and simulation of FMS. The simulation models are developed using software ARENA 10.0 to generate different scenarios of production. It involves in analyzing the impact of transporter/material handling system request selection rules in combination with different part sequencing rules on performance ofFMS. The performance of FMS has been considered inthis research as resource utilization, work in process and throughput.
