Abstract

Remanufacturing is an emerging concept in every economic activity in which a product at the end of its life cycle transformed into "as good as new" and has huge potential due to environmental and economic benefits. Low landfills, solid waste reduction and new components savings are potential benefits of remanufacturing thus lead to the environmental efficiency, However, economic efficiency of remanufacturing defines as value recovery from collected end-of-use products through reusing their core components for the manufacturing of a product with the original functionality. Remanufacturing is a sustainable approach for environment, manufacturing andlife cycle of product. It recovers the product life at the end- of-life or end-of- use and thus converse energy and low carbon footprints. Inspite of having a huge economic and environment advantage very less research work is reported and thus there is a need to understand the concept, other contemporary practices, identify items suitable for remanufacture, benefits and issues related to the concept of remanufacturing. This paper tries to provide an overview of these issues and identifies the challenges and the road map to make the remanufacturing acceptable.
