Abstract
There is a paradigm shift with regard to how the Occupational Safety and Health (OSH) issues are perceived in the competitive world order of today. It is now increasingly realized by many Indian organizations that OSH issues are critical parameters of global competition & business survival. Total Quality Management (TOM) is a holistic and multi-dimensional business philosophy and has emerged as a new paradigm in Occupational Safety and Health (OSH) management. The TQM principles are finding wider acceptability for promotion of safety and health in the Indian context. This article gives an overview of TQM philosophy as well as Occupational Safety & Health (OSH) management and makes an attempt to establish compatibility between the principles, practices and causal factors of TOM and OSH Management. The article also gives an overview of an emerging Total Safety Management (TSM) philosophy and its compatibility with the philosophy andpractices of TQM.
