PRODUCTIVITY IMPROVEMENT IN COMPOSITE WOOD FURNITURE MANUFACTURING

Abstract

During the last decade, there has been a strong growth in the demand for office and domesticfurniture made from engineered wood, also called manmade or composite wood. Various wood working operations and tooling are required to be designed to ensure minimum wastage ofraw material and enhance productivity.Rugged looks and unblemishedsurface qualityare other important areas ofconcern to ensure customer satisfaction and appeal.This study reveals thatsimple innovative approaches and process modifications can bring about significant improvements in productivityof manufacturing units thatuse engineered wood as the basic raw material.
