Abstract
In many industrial engineering applications the final decision is based on the evaluation of a number of alternatives in terms of a number of attributes. This problem may become a very difficult one when the attributes are expressed in different units. The multiattribute decision making methods provide an effective approach in dealing with such situations. This paper presents five decision making methods which are applied for the selection of best abrasive materialfor grinding wheel for grinding a ferrous work material like alloy steel. An Analytical Hierarchy Process optimization model is developed to assess attribute weights and then to rank the alternatives to select the most desirable one. To validate this theory, a numerical example is exhibited.
