Abstract

The purpose of this study is to develop a mathematical model for surface roughness in turning tool steel using response surface methodology coupled with Taguchi design of experiment. The experiment was designed based on Taguchi L27 orthogonal array. The S/N ratio & optimum parametric condition are analyzed. The RSM shows the significance of interaction and square term of parameter & is fitted well because ofhigher R2 value whichwas validated by some confirmation runs. Based on Taguchi S/N ratio & model, feed is the most influencing parameter for surface roughness followed by depth cut and cutting speed has less significant from the experiments.
