Abstract
This paper aims to develop, test and validate supplier selection in supply chain in Indian context that could be used by managers in assessing and improving their supply chain. In many existing decision models for supplier selection only quantitative criteria are considered. However, supplier selection is a multi-objective problem containing quantitative as well as qualitative factors. Hence, this paper attempts to demonstrate the application of the relative rating model to overcome the above-mentioned problem. Using a through synthesis of the supplychain literature, twelve measures-quality, visibility, trust, innovativeness, deliveryreliability, flexibility and responsiveness, resource utilization, cost, asset, technologicalcapability, service and time to market - of supply chain and their58 variables have been developed From an extensive analysis of the results, it is evident thatselection ofan appropriate supplier would result in improving effectiveness of supply chain. The validated instrument ofrelative rating model ofsupply chain measures reported here may be used by organizations to audittheir practices and to priorities its management efforts. This instrument could also be used by the organizations to assess the performance oftheir respective suppliers.
