Abstract

Globalization and development of multinational companies results in increased competition among all the organizations involving in production of same type of product and services. While agility, quality and less cost are become universal goals, a new way of making things known as lean production should be applied in all organizations. In this paper a model has been developed for assessing the current state, identifying problems, generating effective suggestion. Selection of most appropriate suggestions is done by performing Multi Criteria Decision Making model Analytic Hierarchy Process (AHP). Based on the result ofAHP, the suggestions were implemented.A shaft manufacturing industry is taken as a source for the above said model. AHP result shows that out of various suggestions for improvement, implementation ofHouse keeping, TPM and redesign of Layout are to be given most important. The result shows after implementation ofLean Manufacturing the wastages are reduced drastically as compared to the earlier stage.
