Abstract
During the past two decades, Six Sigma Quality Management programmes have been implemented in many organizations. The barriers to implementing Six Sigma know limits; they show up in all sectors - manufacturing, services, government, education etc. Therefore, it is importantfor all organizations to understand and avoid these barriers both before and during Six Sigma implementation. This paper focuses on the barrier factors of Six Sigma implementation and the causes of its failure that are common to all types of organizations and within all management levels, and discusses the ways and means to overcoming these barriers.. The ways and means to overcoming barriers described in this paper can be equally useful to the organizations going in for other quality initiatives. An attempt is made in this paper to make some critical examinations relating to barriers to Six Sigma implementation, and to provide a directionfor eliminating these barriers enhancing the effectiveness of Six Sigma methodology.
