Abstract
The consistent output in terms of finished products as feed pellets with quality specifications viz. nutritionally balanced, digestible, palatable, acceptable, cost effective, attractive and safe in harmony with quantitative production are objectives to achieve. Facilities are arranged according to sequence of processing operations, where the output of one stage becomes the input to the next stage. However, major operational management problems in mass production of livestock / aqua pelleted feed are- alignment and balancing ofproduction / assembly lines, unit operation machine maintenance and to ensure timely supply of raw materials as feed ingredients for successful and profitable animal husbandry and aquacultural enterprises. By scientific and systematic planning of three types of maintenance such as corrective or breakdown maintenance, preventive and scheduled maintenance, and predictive maintenance (condition- based) viz. civil, mechanical and electrical work through execution on alignment and balancing ofproduction / assembly lines, unit operation machine maintenance is required to be ensured under the concept of total quality management (TQM). The inadequate endeavors would otherwise cause significant operational economy losses in the tune of 30%. Further, regular supply of quality raw materials from reliable sources are also prerequisite may otherwise cause 15-20% operational economy losses. The CIAE livestock / aqua feed production plant designed and installed at CIAE, Bhopal has been in consistent trouble free operation under effective and efficient maintenance schedule followed for achieving significant plant operational economy under the concept of total quality management (TOM).
