Abstract
A systematic approach to improve process performance, yield and productivity is possible by using a powerful method of Taguchi technique. Sand casting process involves many factors and interactions thus leading to occurrence of imperfection either on the surface or internally and hampers the functional capability ofthe castings. An analysis of significant process parameters and their levels affecting is taken in this paper. The parameters which were considered are moisture percentage, green compression strength, mould hardness number and permeability. Using Taguchi's method it was intended to optimize the critical process parameter values thereby minimizing the defects. The expected improvement in reduction in casting defects was found to be 40.82 per cent. The outcome resulted in the optimized process parameters ofthe sand casting process for quality improvement and thus reduced the casting defects.
