100 REFLECTIONS ON BEHAVIORAL SAFETY: DEVELOPING INJURYFREE ORGANIZATIONS

Abstract

This article shares a qualitative/narrative data ofthe national action research survey on behavior based safety (BBS) in India.It's an on-going longitudinal study in which the BBS training was provided to nearly 8400 workmen (operators, technicians, contractors) and union representatives about 1600 managers at all levels between 1997 to 2011 in diverse multinational organizations in across industrial sectors (such as oil & gas, power, heavy engineering, automobile, chemical, coal, construction, pharmaceutical, electrical, nuclear, etc). They were exposed to the BBS Concepts; Observation and Feedback processes; and implementation of BBS in an organization. The trainingfocused upon providing an in-depth sense of understanding and application of the concept and process of behavior based safety concerned about correcting unsafe behaviors for reduction of accidents and promoting safe behaviors for developing injury-free culture in their organizations. The workshops were held in English/Hindi language of about 30-50 per batch of training participants.
