Abstract

Variation in a manufacturing process is one ofthe major challenges for an engineer. In the present scenario methods like six sigma and DOE are some of the contemporary problem solving techniques used in manufacturing industry. This paper presents the use of six sigma and DOE principlesfor identification ofthe reasons responsiblefor single unit packaging of a confectionary product (instead of two units) belonging to a major company in this segment. Application ofthese principles has led notonly to the identification, but also to the elimination of the causes responsible for process variation. This has resulted in restoration of customer's faith in the company's products and its brand.
