Abstract

Facility layout is a well-planned process to integrate equipment, materials, and manpower for processing a product in the most efficient manner. The facility layout problem is an optimization problem that involves determining the location and shape of various departments within a facility, based on the inter-department volume and distance measures. CRAFT algorithm is one of the primary methods currently used for optimization of facility layouts. The main aim of this is analyzing and evaluating the various proposed layouts through the algorithm. The objective of the analysis is to minimize the total layout cost. The layout cost depends on material flow between the departments and distance between the departments. The observations on analysis with the algorithm and the software have been presented. An attempt has also been made to optimize the layout through Non-traditional algorithms.
