Abstract
The main goal of this research work is to present a performance comparison of functional job shop manufacturing and recommended cellular shop using newly developed approach for machine-component cell formation. The approach is used for initial formation of cells thereafter the initial solution is taken into account for modification, ie the attempt is made to minimize the EE in final solution regardless of the method to create an initially formed cells, the objective is to decrease intracellular movement parts by appropriately organizing the machines and work centers. The results show that segregation of parts and associated machines reduces intercellular movement significantly due to decrease in exceptional elements (EE). Further the performance of the solution due to proposed method, modified solution and functional job shop is checked by six well known performance measures. In the present paper, an attempt has been made to form machine-component cell with minimum, EE for improving the productivity of a SME.
