Abstract

Increasing international competition has forced Indian manufactures to adopt innovative manufacturing approaches, managerial philosophies and information technologies to survive in the emerging competitive market. However, Indian industries have not yet tested the full effect of JIT approach on performance of production system due to its limited implementation. An integrated frame work of JIT practices and performance parameters after comprehensive review of literature were used to develop a suitable generic JIT implementation and performance measurement model. The conceptual model discusses the pre-requisites for JIT implementation, implementation stages, the key JIT drivers that link the performance at both operational and organizational level and a mathematical relationship between the key JIT drivers and measurable performance. The generic implementation and performance measurement model will help managers to establish the impact of specific JIT drivers on organizational performance and hence competitive advantage of the firm.
