Abstract

Evaluating the effectiveness (capability) of Make to Order (MTO) manufacturing system based on the world class manufacturing (WCM) concept is a critical process. This work proposes a new approach of achieving the world class status for MTO sector using hierarchical structural model. The model comprises of six decision areas, which includes twenty six decision criteria to find the strength and potential weak decision areas for the suggesting further improvements in the effectiveness of MTO system. Identification of various decisions in the job shop manufacturing environment (make to order) and its linking with manufacturing outputs (competitive priorities) in order to achieve the world class status is presented in this work.
