Abstract

ERP implementation is a complex process with combination of human and technical factors. Most of the research is skewed towards large organizations and estimated failure rate is above 50% with time and cost overruns. Many costs are period based and if projects are completed in time, the cost overruns are greatly controlled. One approach to study ERP implementation is through 'Factors" analysis in the form of Critical success factors. In this paper, we will examine as to how to reduce project delays by reducing individual delays of CSFs in an resource-starved SME environment. We attempt this novel approach by using Gross Deviation Analysis (GDA) which combines both Industrial engineering approach and basic quality tools like Pareto analysis on an iterative basis. Conceptually when delays of all CSFs are minimized or eliminated, this will lead to elimination or reduction of overall project delay, thereby increasing ERP implementation success rate in Indian SMEs.
