Abstract

Taghuchi methodology of optimization is used extensively in many fields. This paper presents the case of Taghuchi methodology applied to one of the process in textile industry, called the finishing process to optimize the quality parameters and output of blankets. The study is carried out at one of the large scale textile industry of India. The objective of the study was to improve the operational excellence in the finishing process with the use of Taghuchi technique. The result shows that, out of seven parameters three parameters chemical consumption, electrical energy, labour cost largely affects the production cost. This study helped in improvement of operational excellence in finishing process such as production rate, minimized defects and loss due to rejection of defects, and quality of the product or Blanket.

Keywords- Taghuchi technique, ANOVA, blanket finishing process, operational excellence.
