IMPLEMENTATION OF VISUAL MANAGEMENT SYSTEM FOR EFFECTIVE SHOP FLOOR MANAGEMENT

Abstract

As companies adopt management philosophies for continuous productivity and quality improvement to survive in the increasingly competitive world market, applications of IE techniques has increased in manifolds. Visual management is one of the system which can improve the overall productivity in a shop floor by making the process transparent and identifying the abnormalities in the process. The present study was carried out at a Gasoline System Plant, the objectives of the study were; to increase transparency at work place using 5S, introducing KANBAN in FSM line for visual signalling. Increase space utilization in assembly line. Easy handling of material through improved ergonomics and reduction of time through MTM analysis. After successful implementation of IE techniques the following results were obtained; Use of 5S increased from 30% to 73%, KANBAN system reduced space utilization for supermarket which led to cost savings.
