Abstract
To be competitive in the business for any firm have to deliver good quality at low cost. To achieve this they have to manage their resources efficiently, reduce wastes and most importantly eliminate unnecessary delays. A good traceability mechanism ensures delay free operations in the product development or distribution cycle. This study aims to develop a traceability system to ensure that the process can be tracked with ease and the specific location in the production process is determined without any significant delay. This paper presents a case study conducted in a hydraulic gear manufacturing firm. The current level of traceability mechanism of the firm is studied by conducting root cause analysis. The key causes are addressed by redesigning the existing traceability instruments and by comparing the traceability systems with other firms valuable insights are recommended.
