IT ENABLED DISTRIBUTION: A CASE STUDY OF LPG CYLINDER SUPPLY CHAIN

Abstract

In the past few decades there is a drastic rise in dependency of society on the Information Technology world. Also there is no second thought that it had simplified the working processes and hence saved time in many aspects. The overall focus of this research is on the role of IT in Supply Chain Management (SCM) of Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) distribution System. The study also analyses the impact of IT on society with the help of a Door to Door Survey. The research basically has three phases i.e. Case Study, Market Survey and Interviews. For accomplishment of objectives a case study of a LPG Bottling Plant named “X” was done. Major emphasis is given on the role of IT in the flow of money, material and information inside the organization. Secondly, a random survey of 200 LPG customers in Ujjain city is also done to analyze IT’s impact on customer dealings. Interviews are conducted with the Plant Managers and Engineers of the Plant to share their experiences on use of IT inside their organization. The data collected is analyzed and important results and implications are found.
