Abstract

As Life and Work are inseparable, virtually limitless scope and opportunity await Industrial Engineering (IE) for Designing and re-designing more efficient, effective, and satisfying WORK SYSTEMS everywhere in the World. The ever accelerating explosion of knowledge, insight, wisdom in all domains of epistemology-Philosophy, Humanities, Social, Biological, and Physical Sciences and their applied aspects like Technology, Medicine, and Law, are creating unlimited opportunity to DESIGN NEW WORK SYSTEMS and Re-Design the existing ones after discarding the obsolete work practices in all walks of life. It is an exciting and challenging time for professional Industrial Engineers and for all connected with teaching, research, and training of the Industrial Engineers to enable and inspire them to CREATE and RE-CREATE WORK SYSTEMS using latest knowledge from all relevant domains as applicable to any specific situations. The all-inclusive scope of INDUSTRIAL ENGINEERING profession as delineated by IIE, AIIE, and by all professional groups in same or closely related ones, keeps challenging all of us related to the profession, to DESIGN and Install the BEST POSSIBLE WORK SYSTEM at a given time and place incorporating latest knowledge and experience. The teaching, training, and practice of Industrial Engineering must focus on SYSTEM VIEW encompassing ALL aspects of any WORK SYSTEM of vital concern where-ever and whenever it is in action which requires clear identification and innovation for WHAT, WHY, WHO, WHERE, WHEN and HOW of such SYSTEM, process and work practice making and approaches like system dynamics, decision under Risk and Uncertainty, virtual cellular clustering algorithms and swarm optimization.
