Abstract
Teaching–learning-based optimization algorithm (TLBO) is a teaching–learning process inspired algorithm recently proposed by Dr. R. Venkata Rao. The algorithm mimics teaching–learning ability of teacher and learners in a class room. Teaching learning based optimization based on the effect of influence of a teacher on learners in a class. Teacher and learners are the two important components of the algorithm. As the teacher is considered as most learned person in the society, the best solution is so far similar to Teacher in TLBO. Teaching–Learning–Based Optimization algorithms simulate the teaching learning phenomenon of a classroom to solve multi-dimensional, linear and nonlinear problems with appreciable efficiency the output of TLBO algorithm is considered in terms of results or grades of the learners which depends on quality of teacher. This algorithm is more effective and efficient than the other optimization method for the mechanical design optimization problem considered. This paper reviews the applications of TLBO algorithm in mechanical domain. The applications of TLBO include parameters optimization of advanced machining processes, multi-pass turning process parameter optimization and job shop scheduling problems.
