Abstract

Quality has become one of the most important customer decision factors in the selection among the competing product and services. Consequently, understanding and improving quality is a key factor leading to business success, growth and an enhanced competitive position. Quality control helps industries in the improvements of its product quality and productivity. Statistical Process Control (SPC) is one of the tools to control the quality of products that brings a manufacturing process under control. It is the application of statistical methods to the measurement and analysis of variation processes. In SPC, control charts, process capability analysis and normality test are performed on data for analysis. In the current study, a case of company manufacturing coupling disc for a generator manufacturing firm is presented, which is well established. The outer diameter finishing operation of coupling disc is selected for analysis which is performed on CNC turning machine. X bar and R control charts are used for finding the pattern of data points followed by process capability analysis to check the robustness of process. For process capability analysis Cp and Cpk indices are used to check capability of process to produce quality parts. Anderson darling test for normality is used for checking the normality of data. 10. batches of sample size 5 each are selected randomly during the actual production period for data collection. From control charts and process capability indices, it can be concluded that, the process is in control to manufacture parts within tolerance zone and is capable to produce quality parts. Minitab 16 software is used for statistical analysis.
