Abstract
In this paper an attempt has been made to link Stock Induced Consumption phenomenon with waste and waste management. Unjustified consumption of resources due to their storage has been studied by taking a case of water consumption in Delhi Development Authority (DDA) flats. In DDA flats residents are compelled to store water at individual household level for their day-long usage, which affects their consumption and results in enormous wastage of water. Water distribution system is compared with multi-echelon inventory system with a proposal for saving in safety stock. Since, it is a behavioral issue and to bring about the behavioral change, some solutions have been proposed here with a clear indication that Just-In-Time System can play a very crucial role in consumption side waste management practices.
