IMPLEMENTATION OF SIX SIGMA METHODOLOGY FOR PRODUCTIVITY IMPROVEMENT

Abstract

Automotive industry has been experiencing a competitive environment & striving hard to find methods to reduce manufacturing cost, waste & improve quality. The ultimate goal is to speed up the process thereby increasing the productivity through proper utilization of all the available resources. The current work was carried out at General Motors(GM) with an objective of reducing per unit cost of the product. In this study, work study and work sampling was carried out to reduce the work content, Re-assignment of tasks and workers per Team, & elimination of unnecessary activities optimized the Manpower Utilization (MPU%). This work explores and implements the Lean Six Sigma methodologies, tools, and techniques in supply chain The project discusses the implementation of DMAIC methodology to improve Key Performance Indicators (KPI's).
