Abstract

In the liberalized and global economy, to compete internationally, it is not enough just to build a good product, rather, to create products that satisfy customer's needs. This is the need of the hour due to increased industry competition, fluctuating market demands and customer centric market. Many techniques, tools and methods have been developed to enhance the quality in the design process itself so that to satisfy the customers. Quality Function Deployment (QFD) and Value Engineering (VE) are among them. When a company uses Quality Function Deployment and Value engineering separately, decisions related to part cannot be visualized easily. The integration for value engineering into the phase of Quality Function Deployment would certainly enhance the visualization of decisions pertaining to a part. An attempt has been made in this paper to demonstrate the advantages of integration of value engineering and Quality Function Deployment. For demonstrating and implementing the concept of integration as mentioned above, a De-Twister assembly, one of the sub assemblies of Squeezer machine was taken. A detailed value engineering integrated with Quality Function Deployment was done in this study to improve the performance of the De-Twister assembly parts which was concluded with cost benefits.

Keywords- Customer Satisfaction, Quality Function Deployment (QFD), Value Engineering (VE), Integration of QFD and VE, De-Twister Assembly, SqueezerMachine.
