Abstract

The automotive industry has been experiencing a competitive environment and striving hard to find methods to reduce manufacturing cost without compromising quality. Automotive industries want to serve products at low cost as possible. This paper is based on reduction in cost by effective use of st Manpower. The current work was carried out at General Motors with an objective of reduction in manpower. Redistribution of activities from 1 shift nd to 2 shift resulted in elimination of 1 technician in chemical management (Quaker) and optimizing of manpower utilization (MPU%) in tooling department (HiTECO). The advantage of implementation of solution is, it will reduce total cost of operation and increase customer satisfaction without hampering process of organization.
