Abstract
Failure Mode and Effects Analysis (FMEA) is a systematic method of identification and preventing products and process' problems before it occur. FMEAs focus on preventing defects, enhancing safety and increasing customer satisfaction. It is precisely an analytical methodology used to ensure that potential problems have been identified and addressed through the product and process development cycle. In this work, the goal is to reduce the potential failures of CNC machines in industry through the FMEA approach reducing the downtime. Various possible causes of failure and their effects on sub systems have been evaluated for improving the reliability of the CNC machines. The FMEA needs to define parameters such as Severity (S), Occurrence (O), Detection (D) and Risk Priority Number (RPN). On the basis of the parameters some of the suggestions are proposed for avoiding the possible risks and ultimately reduce the loss to the industry in terms of time, money and quality.
