Abstract
In this paper, the Taguchi method has been applied to evaluate the machinability of Ti6Al4V with uncoated solid Carbide end mill cutter. Experiments were planned and conducted using the L orthogonal array design on a CNC vertical milling machine. Three levels for cutting speed, feed rate, depth 9 of cut and cutting oil flow rate were chosen as cutting variables. Signal to noise ratio and analysis of variance were used to determine the effects of the machining parameters on surface roughness, metal removal rate and machining temperature. PCA and GRA were applied to predict the result of experimentation. Finally the main effect plots and percentage contributions of various parameters affecting the responses are discussed by using Minitab 17. Result analysis reveals that cutting speed and feed were the most dominating factors followed by the cutting oil flow rate. Confirmation test results showed that the Taguchi method was quite successful in the optimization of machining parameters in end milling of Ti6Al4V
