Abstract

Lean Manufacturing or Lean Production, which is often known simply as LEAN, is a production practice that considers the expenditure of resources for any goal, other than the creation of value for the end customer, to be wasteful, and thus, a target for elimination. Lean is the set of “tools” that assists in the identification and steady elimination of waste (MUDA). As waste is eliminated quality improves while production time and cost are reduced. This paper addresses the application of Value Stream Mapping (VSM) as one of the Lean tools to eliminate waste, and improved operational procedures and productivity. Current state map is prepared and analysed and suggested to improve the operational process. Accordingly, the future state map is drawn which will be an ideal state where company wants to be. Application of VSM has resulted in identifying various improvement initiatives and resulted in improvement of various parameters which serves as the metrics of productivity, quality, cost and delivery improvements
