Abstract
Coal produced in coal mines is transported to coal handling plants by belt conveyors. Conveyor Rollers are manufactured in the workshops in bulk for extending existing belt conveyors and for replacement of damaged rollers. Automatic Band saw is used to cut the pipe stock into different size pieces. After cutting a pipe into required size pieces some part of it is left as waste. In order to minimize wastage a pipe is to be cut into different sizes in an optimal pattern utilizing the full length of the pipe stock. This is a combinatorial problem which is solved by Genetic Algorithm. In this paper optimal pipe cutting pattern is arrived, taking into account other practical implications in the manufacturing process.
